Financial Deck Refresh

Update financial figures across an existing presentation while preserving its formatting and structure.

FollowSkills review · FSRS-2.0
Not recommended
54/ 100 5-point scale 2.7 / 5
Trust18 / 25 · 3.6/5

The skill requires confirmation of data mappings, treatment of derived figures, and a complete change plan before editing; it also mandates minimal edits, formatting preservation, and no silent narrative changes. Deducted because it does not address sensitive financial-data handling, data-flow disclosure, access scoping, backup/rollback, external side effects, or source attribution.

Reliability8 / 20 · 2.0/5

The four-phase workflow, input cases, derived-number flags, and post-edit visual checks are reasonably clear. Deducted because the actual editing tools, file-write behavior, chart/notes handling, and failure feedback are unspecified; the chat-mode promise to preserve everything else exactly is not reproducibly defined. Static evidence also limits this score to 10 or below.

Adaptability9 / 15 · 3.0/5

The skill clearly targets quarterly refreshes, earnings updates, comp roll-forwards, and replacing figures across existing presentations, with separate add-in and chat contexts. Deducted for missing non-fit boundaries, trigger exclusions, input constraints, output format, and Chinese-language or mainland-China environment support.

Convention8 / 15 · 2.7/5

The document has clear progressive phases, examples, limitations, and reporting guidance; the repository supplies an Apache-2.0 license and basic CI maintenance signals. Deducted because the skill lacks its own version, changelog, named maintenance responsibility, update path, installation/dependency notes, and systematic troubleshooting.

Effectiveness7 / 15 · 2.3/5

The skill directly addresses cross-slide number updates and covers text, tables, chart data, footnotes, and notes, with a clear changed-versus-flagged report. Deducted because no representative outputs or execution evidence verify direct usability, chat regeneration may alter non-target content, and human review remains necessary; static calibration caps this at 7.

Verifiability4 / 10 · 2.0/5

The required change list and approval record create an auditable intended process, and the repository revision and CI provide limited structural evidence. Deducted because there are no key-path tests, sample input/output fixtures, independent reproduction records, or third-party execution evidence; static calibration caps this at 5.

Before you use it
  • This is a static documentation review; no plugin, presentation edit, or visual verification was executed.
  • Before use, confirm the source files, data provenance, value mappings, and treatment of derived metrics, and retain a recoverable original copy.
  • The chat-mode promise to preserve all non-target elements exactly lacks implementation or test evidence; review data access, upload, and write-back paths for sensitive financial materials.
  • Chinese trigger semantics and mainland-China network reachability are unspecified and should be validated before deployment.

What it does & when to use it

Deck Refresh updates existing presentations with quarterly figures, earnings updates, comparable-company data, or rebased market data. It searches for numeric variants across text boxes, tables, charts, footnotes, and optionally speaker notes, then builds a location-by-location change plan. Editing is gated by user approval. After approval, it changes values only, preserves existing formatting, and performs visual checks on edited slides.

It first confirms how new figures arrive and whether derived metrics should be recalculated. It then reads every slide and finds equivalent values expressed with different scales, precision, units, or embedded wording. After recording each old value, replacement, and location, it seeks approval before updating text, table cells, and underlying chart series data. It reports completed changes and checks for overflow or layout issues caused by longer values.

  1. An investment banker receives quarterly results and needs to refresh an existing presentation without changing its design.
  2. An equity researcher replaces old earnings figures in a recurring update deck.
  3. A finance team rolls comparable-company or market data forward across multiple slides.
  4. A user needs chart values, axis labels, footnotes, and narrative figures updated consistently.

Pros & cons

Pros
  • Searches across text, tables, chart data, axis labels, footnotes, and other less obvious locations.
  • Preserves existing typography, colors, emphasis, tables, and layout through a smallest-change approach.
  • Requires approval before edits and flags potentially stale derived figures.
  • Describes workflows for both a live PowerPoint add-in and an uploaded deck in chat.
Limitations
  • The source provides no test results, supported file-format list, or implementation details.
  • Derived figures are not recalculated automatically.
  • It flags narrative inconsistencies instead of rewriting the affected slides.
  • There is no quantified evidence for visual-verification coverage on large or complex decks.

How to install

In Claude Code, add the marketplace and install the core plugin:
claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/financial-services
claude plugin install financial-analysis@claude-for-financial-services
The source does not document a separate installation command for deck-refresh.

How to use

Give a mapping such as: "Update the deck: revenue $485M → $512M and EBITDA $120M → $135M." You may also upload an Excel file or provide only new values. Confirm the mapping and state whether derived figures such as growth rates or market share should be recalculated. Review and approve the generated change plan before editing begins.

FAQ

Will it automatically recalculate growth rates or market share?
No. It flags potentially affected derived figures and asks the user whether they should be recalculated.
Does it update charts or only their labels?
It is instructed to update the underlying chart series values so the visual data changes as well.
Can it edit before showing a plan?
No. The workflow requires a complete change list and user approval before editing.
Is it a deck redesign tool?
No. It updates figures in an existing deck, preserves formatting, and flags narrative problems rather than rebuilding slides.
